Investment will protect one of the city’s most iconic landmarks while positioning the Imperial Historic District for redevelopment

Sugar Land, Texas – October 21, 2026 – Following City Council action on Oct. 20, the City is advancing extensive preservation work on the century-old Imperial Sugar Char House, a major milestone that will stabilize and protect the historic landmark while preparing it for future adaptive reuse.

The approval builds on significant momentum since the City acquired the Imperial Historic District in June 2025. In just over a year, the City has engaged the community in shaping a vision for the property, initiated the master developer selection process and advanced a comprehensive preservation plan for the Char House.
